What is the theme this year?
This year, World Heart Day’s theme is creating heart-healthy environments. The places in which we live, work and play should not increase our risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). But individuals frequently cannot make heart-healthy choices due to environmental factors, such as the availability of healthy food or smoke-free zones.

Many studies have shown the benefits of exercise for preventing CVD, with a team of researchers from Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University even calling exercise a “magic bullet” when it comes to tacking the global problem of cardiovascular disease. After evaluating research on the health benefits of exercise the authors found that even just brisk walking for 20 minutes a day could not only burn around 700 calories a week, but also reduce the risk of heart disease by as much as 30 to 40 percent.

World heart day is celebrated all across the world to reduce the number of deaths because of cardiovascular diseases worldwide. It is an international campaign to spread awareness among common public to save them and motivate to live with healthy heart. According to the WHO, cardiovascular diseases are the reason of around 30% deaths of all global deaths. Some of the most dangerous risk factors leading to the heart disease and stroke are high blood pressure, high level of bad cholesterol, increased glucose level, smoking habit, inadequate intake of diet, fruit and vegetables, increased weight, and obesity.
